Student Staff – Senior Venues Assistant (Internal Applicants Only)
Rate of Pay: £12.91 per hour, plus holiday pay

It’s an exciting in our Venues team, as from May 2026 we will be operating in partnership with JD Wetherspoons.
Joe’s bar will continue to be run and managed by the Guild and the staff will continue to be employed and managed by the Guild. The partnership with Wetherspoons will not only allow us to access the Wetherspoons business model but will also support us in enhancing the student experience in a newly refurbished space.
To be eligible to apply for this role, you must meet the below criteria:
- You must already be working as a Bar Assistant for the University of Birmingham Guild of Students and have completed a minimum of 10 shifts in this role.
- You must be a fully registered student at the University of Birmingham until June 2027 or later.
This role involves providing supervision, support and guidance to the Bar Assistants during shifts, as well as providing an excellent standard of customer service, creating a warm, friendly environment that people wish to return to.
This role offers you a range of opportunities to gain skills and experience including (not exclusively):
- Supervising other student staff
- Additional bar supervision responsibilities
- Cash handling and till reconciliation
- Working within licensing regulations
Hours: Senior Venues Assistants are required to work up to 20 hours per week during term time. This role will involve working day and evening shifts, including regular club nights which finish at 4am. You will be expected to work 2 out of every 4 club night shifts (including FAB and Sports Night).
Training: Senior Venues Assistants are required to complete mandatory online and in person paid training. This will commence as soon as you are offered the position and will be ongoing.
Availability: Senior Venues Assistants must be available to work during the following dates:
- TBC June 2026 - Graduation Ball
- TBC September 2026 - Welcome Week (you will not be required every day, but please ensure that you are available to work during this week).
- Throughout the year, you will need to be available to work at least 2 out of every 4 club night shifts (including FAB and Sports Night).
